AAA Club South Offers Online Driving Course
Drivers in Georgia are being offered a new opportunity to save money on insurance, thanks to Triple-A.
While there are many defensive driving classes that can net you an insurance discount, AAA Auto Club South has rolled out their own version, which involves a one-time fee of $39.95, six hours of your time, and Internet access.
In exchange? Drivers who take the course get a 10% discount on their auto insurance that lasts for three years. Based on Georgia's average insurance rates, for a 40-year-old male driver, that represents a savings of $560 over the 36-month period.
The course is an online version of training that AAA already offers in classroom environments, and puts drivers through six hours of videos and written text about vehicle safety and defensive driving, with quizzes at the end of each sitting. The quizzes do not have to be taken in one session, but those taking must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly.
LaPlant, senior project manager of AAA Auto Club South says, ""It really is not difficult to pass the course. It's just a matter of paying attention to the information and answering the questions."
The catch, because there's always a catch, is that not all drivers like the idea of paying to receive a discount. For example, if you're over forty years old and have low rates already, it may not be worth the time and expense.
While there are no restrictions on taking the course, in order to earn the insurance discount, you must be a driver licensed and insured in Georgia, and be at least twenty-five years old. As well, you won't earn the discount if you've had any accidents or traffic violations in the three years immediately preceding the test.
The savings applies to more expensive aspects of auto insurance like liability and collision coverage, and there's another discount involved as well: while anyone can take the course for $39.95, AAA members only have to pay $29.95.
